    Luton Borough Council
    Case study

Luton Borough Council are responsible for gritting around 485 km of road, including primary, secondary and supplementary routes, and must ensure grit bits are in good condition at all times.

    The Approach

To manage the 250 grit bin network, map16 created a bespoke mobile and web-based platform to map and maintain every asset within the area. Crews on the ground inspecting a site can log information live from the field and update the system with the click of a button, with photo uploading functionality. Factors such as salt capacity and condition can be updated, as well as defects such as damage, littering and bins that have been moved without authorisation, all in an easy to navigate map view dashboard.

    The Benefits

The system allows crews to quickly and ensure grit bits are always at their maximum potential. Public safety across footpaths and roads is paramount during winter months due to icy conditions, and having properly maintained grit bins ensures busy public areas and footpaths are ice free and safe to walk through.
